WE NEED HOMEOWNER HELP

How can you help? We need your help in making our drain pond restoration possible:

 Please refrain from walking in or on the non-path wetlands areas, and do not allow children or animals to play in this area.

 Don’t dump on (or in) your drain pond wetland. A wetland is not a compost pile for your grass clippings, a depository for manure or pet droppings, or a convenient place to leave junk, debris, or unused chemicals. Treat your wetland as you would your own garden and don’t suffocate it with a pile of grass clippings. Heaps of grass clippings in your wetland will form an oxygen-starved mass that will not decay, but will cause a foul smell and will upset the balance within the wetland ecosystem. Animal waste in or near a wetland will reduce its water quality, as will unused chemicals.

 If you see someone dumping, or not picking up after their animals, kindly ask them to pick up after themselves. Notify the Board of Directors if someone continues to dump in the wetlands. “Only you can prevent harmful dumping in our ponds!” S. Bear

 Community Clean-up Day is April 23rd. Please get out and help pick up trash and recyclables and help beautify our neighborhood. We need your help to pick-up trash around the two drain ponds and at the Park on Midlane Drive. Get out and help clean up on 4/23 @ 8:30 AM. Visit the Park District website for more details crystallakeparks.org.

 Do not plant or use herbicides in (or on) the common area drain ponds. The BPOA Board will be issuing planting guidelines, based on expert recommendations later this year detailing which native plants we want to introduce to the ponds. Until then, please do not plant any unauthorized species in (or on) the common area drain ponds.

 Volunteer on the Wetlands Committee or the Board of Directors. We need your help to plan out the next 10 years of maintenance for the drain ponds. Please come and be a part of this exciting time for our neighborhood. Contact Paul McPherson or any member of the Board if you are interested.

 Please be patient and enjoy the slow transformation. The board is committed to making the area beautiful and functional for generations to come.

If you have additional questions, or would like more details on the drain pond restoration, please contact the Wetlands Committee or a member of our Board.

Marnie Howell (Midlane)
Mike Marchyshyn (Lochwood)
Paul McPherson (Shipland)

More details will be coming after the new Board decides on the Officer positions. Stay Tuned.

Thanks to Annemarie, Bob, Wayne and Kelly for your service last year. You will be missed at the Board Meetings.
Dear Braeburn Homeowner,

The 2010 Board of Directors wishes you and your family a very safe and Happy New Year!

WETLANDS MAINTENANCE
As we discussed at the annual meeting, we will continue the wetland plans to maintain the health of our drainage systems, and promote native wetland species in 2011. The work to remove non-native/invasive plants and woody species will begin in the first quarter. More details will be communicated via our e-mail distribution list and community blog; see details below.

NO DUMPING – PLEASE DON’T DO IT!
Dumping in the wetland ponds is strictly prohibited. If you see anyone dumping anything in the wetlands, please ask them to stop. This includes grass clippings, dirt and any other waste. Dumping harms the native plants, clogs the drainage system and leads to costly maintenance and cleanup. Please notify the Board of Directors of any repeated dumping violations by sending us the details to bpoa.admin@gmail.com.

The Wetlands Committee is recommending that the Board assess a large fine for anyone caught dumping in the wetlands. These fines will be used to clean up the wetlands and remove the dumped waste. More details on these fines will be available after the 2011 board decides on the process to levy the fines.

If you have questions, or want to be a part of our Wetlands Committee, please email us at bpoa.admin@gmail.com.
